ENTIRE NEW BRIDGE

Project management for the design and construction of a bridge across the Suriname River. FIRM Engineering as part of a project consortium managed the design, engineering work preparation and construction activities of the bridge and road contractors. A steel truss bridge with two spans of 102m each to cross the Suriname River. 8km of new approach roads connect the new bridge to the existing infrastructure.

THOROUGH BRIDGE INSPECTION

Thorough inspection of the three major bridges of Suriname. The Wijdenbosch across the Suriname River, the Coppename River Bridge and the Saramacca River Bridge. During construction (1998-2000) of the major bridges across the Suriname River and the Coppename River by Ballast Nedam International, FIRM Engineers performed a significant role in the engineering and construction management. FIRM Engineering performed very detailed and thorough inspections on these bridges after 10 years of usage. Very detailed reports have been produced for future reference, maintenance schedules were prepared, and repair and maintenance works were engineered and prepared for execution.

FIRM Engineering performed all field investigations to gather data, performed the required engineering and designed dozens of bridges in several Suriname districts. FIRM prepared the Technical Specifications and bidding documents, managed the tender processes and subsequently supervised the construction. Smaller bridges ranging in length from 18m to 100m.

BRIDGES AND CULVERT STRUCTURES IN THE SURINAME INTERIOR

FIRM Engineering performed all field investigations to gather data (e.g. surveys, geotechnical investigations and ESIA), performed all engineering and design activities to produce design drawings “issued for construction”. Performed relevant tender processes and managed the entire projects including Construction Supervision, Quality Assurance & Quality Control, HSEC Management and Project Control for several bridge and culvert structures in the Suriname interior. Mainly on behalf of multinationals active in the mining industry.

NEW HAUL ROAD THROUGH UNDEVELOPED REMOTE JUNGLE FOR THE MINING INDUSTRY

An all-new 105 km haul road for the mining industry near to the Nassau mountains area, located in Eastern Suriname. FIRM Engineering managed the field investigations to gather data, including the performance of LiDAR, performed all engineering to determine the optimum road alignment and designed the road construction in accordance with governing requirements in the industry. Technical Specifications and bidding documents were prepared and the tender process was managed.

Design of a new and comprehensive industrial center on and around the former alumina refinery of Suralco.
FIRM Engineering performed cross discipline and comprehensive investigation, engineering, spatial planning and design of the Industrial Center; the entire infrastructure as well as the required new facilities. Architectural, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering up to the completion of the project plan.

FACILITIES FOR A NEW MINE DEVELOPMENT

Development of a new bauxite mine in West-Suriname. Detailed Design of all required facilities and infrastructure for the development of the new bauxite mine in Bakhuis, Suriname. Three areas:

1. Bakhuis Mine Permanent Village; comprehensive town for 300 inhabitants. Roads, landscaping, dewatering, housing, restaurants and other general facilities, potable water, electricity, waste water treatment. Managing all engineering disciplines.
2. Bakhuis Mine Industrial Area Facilities; roads, landscaping, drainage, workshops, fuel stations, warehouses etc. Managing all engineering disciplines to allow for proper, safe and efficient logistics during operations.
3. Apoera Port Facilities; roads, landscaping, drainage, workshops, fuel stations, warehouses etc. managing all engineering disciplines to allow for proper, safe and efficient logistics during operations.
   The Client canceled the entire Bakhuis project before construction of the facilities started.

NEW HELIPORT

NEW FACILITIES FOR CATERPILLAR DEALER

Entire complex with new facilities for the SURMAC heavy equipment operations. Workshops, warehouses, showroom, offices etcetera. Ds. Martin Luther King Highway.
FIRM Engineering performed cross discipline and comprehensive investigation, engineering, design and construction supervision for the entire complex of new facilities for SURMAC in strict accordance with CATERPILLAR requirements to efficiently perform the projected operations that include heavy equipment. NEW INDUSTRIAL BAKERY FACILITIES

Entire complex with new facilities for the Fernandes concern. New comprehensive bakery and related facilities in accordance with the industry’s modern, governing requirements and guidelines.

All in accordance with FIRM’s ISO 9001 certified Quality Management system. GOLD REFINERY FACILITIES

New facilities for the Kaloti Precious Metal Group from Dubai. A new gold refinery mint house including all related facilities in accordance with modern requirements and governing guidelines of the industry.

COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT

Entire new hotel building with 146 hotel rooms including relevant facilities.
FIRM Engineering performed cross discipline and overall Supervision of the construction for the entire building and all facilities of the comprehensive Suriname Courtyard by Marriott. Quality Control for all disciplines, Cost Control for the entire project, record keeping and contracts administration. Supervision of the architectural, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering scope of works from start of the construction up to realization and commissioning of the entire project.

NEW SCHOOLS COMPOUND

Designing the Masterplan and subsequently the complete school facilities including primary school, secondary school, sports and logistics facilities.

FIRM Engineering performed the entire cross discipline engineering: civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, managed the subsequent tender processes and construction processes. From conception to completion.

MINE ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

Expansion of housing accommodations for gold mining personnel to assure proper living conditions on site. This expansion includes the construction of 258 additional rooms spread over two buildings.

ASSURIA HERMITAGE HIGH-RISE

Entire new high-rise office building with 11 floors including a theatre and other related functions.
FIRM Engineering performed cross discipline and comprehensive engineering and design of the entire project from initiation, the conceptual phase through tenders and construction up to delivery and use of the building complex.
Construction management of the entire building and related facilities in accordance with FIRM’s ISO 9001 certified Quality Control Management system. Supervision of the architectural, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering scope of works from construction commencement up to realization and commissioning of the entire project.

Fossil-fueled generating plants, hydro dams and LPG & fuel storage and handling facilities. Projects include feasibility studies, asset integrity audits, engineering and design of plant modifications and expansion as well as operation and maintenance management.
